The hardest working room in the home is the kitchen. Between cooking, dining, homework and paperwork - how can you make the hub of the home a high powered engine of efficiency? Being efficient means less steps. Steps take time and time is money. Factories know how to manage steps to maximize time. Here are some quick tips:

1. Track your movements in the kitchen. Repetitious steps waste time. Put often used items where you use them. Relegate infrequently used items to the hardest places to reach. If you never use them, get out the donation bag.

2. Declutter. No one needs three potato peelers and 6 wooden spoons. Note which tools you reach for often and be honest about the ones you don't. Drawer dividers create a place for everything - a simple, effective fix for cramped spaces.

3. Position dishes and glasses near the dishwasher for fast unloading.

4. Put silverware near the dining table for fast table setting.
